Once your baby shows all of the signs of readiness and pre-feeding skills from Kit 1, then your baby is ready for Kit 2: Learn to Eat & Drink!
Kit 2 was designed to give babies the right tools to learn how to chew, self-feed, and drink safely, while giving parents confidence along the way.
Learning to Chew, Where It Matters Most
Unfortunately, most baby feeders sit on the tongue and encourage sucking, but chewing skills develop on the gumline! That’s why the ezpz Baby-Led™ Gumline Feeder is designed to rest directly along your baby’s gums.
As your baby bites down, small pieces of food are released through the holes, encouraging the up-and-down ‘munch chew’ pattern and tongue lateralization (side-to-side motion). These early chewing skills help build the jaw strength and coordination needed for safe swallowing and independent eating.
Expert Tip: Cut soft foods using the BLW Food Cutters (also included in this kit) and place it into the feeder to let your baby practice chewing.

Learning to Drink from an Open Cup
Open-cup drinking is another key skill introduced in Kit 2. The Baby-Led Tiny Cup supports oral-motor development by encouraging lip closure, jaw stability, and tongue elevation (skills that impact both feeding and speech development).

Babies can begin practicing open-cup drinking with support as early as 4-6 months (using breast milk or formula). At the 6-month mark, thicker liquids like purees or smoothies can be introduced, and eventually water is used once babies start holding the cup themselves. Remember, some spills are expected, because learning happens through experience.
Expert Tip: Just 5 minutes of daily practice helps babies become a safe and independent open cup drinker by their first birthday!
Supporting Self-Feeding
The Baby-Led Tiny Spoon is designed for baby’s first grasp. Its short, round handle supports the palmar grasp, making it easier for babies to bring food to their mouths independently. Soft tactile bumps help food stick to the spoon and provide sensory feedback inside the mouth, which can reduce gagging and support safer swallowing.
Expert Tip: Parents can preload the spoon during early stages, then watch as dipping and scooping skills naturally emerge over time.
Preparing Foods for Success
Safe food prep plays a big role in baby-led feeding. The BLW Food Cutters included in Kit 2 help parents prepare foods based on age and developmental stage. Strips support the palmar grasp (around 6 months), while cubes encourage the pincer grasp (around 9 months).

Expert Tip: Serrated edges also make it easier for babies to grip and chew soft foods.
Creating a Stable Mealtime Environment
The Tiny Bowl suctions to the surface, helping keep baby centered at midline (a position that supports safe swallowing). Its low walls make it easy for babies to see and reach food, supporting both finger feeding and spoon use.

Expert Tip: The Tiny Bowl is compact and travel-friendly, making it ideal for meals away from home.
What comes next?
