Carrots are a nutritious veggie that your kids can enjoy year round, but especially during the holidays! And, because of their vibrant orange color, carrots are a great vegetable for food art this fall season!
To ensure your carrots are the perfect taste and texture for your toddler, use the following tips:
Off with their heads! In order to keep carrots crisp and crunchy make sure to remove the carrot tops prior to storing in the fridge. Children will consider eating carrots at the Thanksgiving table when they have a nice crunch with each bite!
No wilting! Store carrots in the crisper section of your fridge to prevent wilting. The more a carrot wilts, the less likely your child will enjoy that texture. If your carrots have wilted, you can bake them in olive oil to restore moisture plus the hearty taste. Baked carrots are a great side dish at a holiday meal.
Carrots and apples are not friends! Apples and pears release a gas that causes carrots to get bitter, so keep them in different sections of the fridge to avoid food refusals from your little one.
Offer carrots raw! Use carrots for a festive appetizer to get your kids nibbling before the holiday meal. Also consider having your child help you in the kitchen, as this exposes them to all of the yummy foods you are cooking for the Thanksgiving meal. They will be better prepared for all of the new food smells and tastes!
These feeding tips for carrots will ensure that your kids will have the best experience exploring this healthy veggie this fall! What advice do you have to encourage toddlers to enjoy the taste and texture of carrots?
