The two BLW Food Cutters help you create food strips (6m+) to promote the palmer grasp, and food cubes (9m+) to encourage the pincer grasp. Expert Innovation
Join our founder (Lindsey) and our expert feeding specialist (Dawn) as they talk about the intentional design behind the Baby-Led Weaning Food Cutters.
Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a feeding approach where babies self-feed and eat the same foods as the rest of the family. This method involves baby / toddler picking up soft strips and cubes of food or using a baby-led™ spoon (instead of being spoon-fed purees by an adult).
The Baby-Led Weaning Food Cutters are the first tool of their kind, and they eliminate the guesswork of BLW food prep.
Mealtime Milestones

The Palmar Grasp
The palmar grasp is a baby's first feeding grasp, typically emerging around 6 months of age. This grasp occurs when a baby stabilizes an object against their palm with their fingers curled around it.
A baby will use the palmar grasp to hold a spoon or one piece of food at a time in the palm of their hand and slowly (but independently) place it into their mouth.
Food strips cut to the length of an adult pinky finger are ideal for baby to grasp, place on their gumline, and learn how to chew and swallow.

The Pincer Grasp
The Pincer Grasp is when your baby uses the tips of their thumb and index finger to pick up food or an object. This is a more mature feeding movement that appears around 9 months of age.
During this stage, your baby / toddler will use this grasp to quickly pick up multiple small pieces of food at a time.
Soft foods cut into bite-sized cubes are ideal for baby to grasp, place on their gumline, and learn how to chew and swallow.
